Rigless Hybrid Wellhead Isolation – Southeast Asia with IG & MS Sealant

 The Client

KCI was asked by a major oil and gas operator in Southeast Asia to provide an isolation to prevent the B Annulus pressure from entering the 13 3/8” Casing Hanger Void.

The Results

KCI deployed 2 unique products, IG and MS Sealant, to perform the isolation. Once the product had fully cured, a leak-off test was performed at the injection port with full annulus pressure from below resulting in a zero PBU. The isolation was successful and the well was safely brought back online.

This value-adding, rigless isolation operation saved the Well owner from a potentially time-consuming and costly wellhead workover repair operation.

The Challenge

A standard sealant deployment solution was not suitable for this application as the Casing Hanger locking mechanism had to be protected to ensure it could be recovered at a later date. To safeguard the moving parts, we also used our IG-Sealant product for an effortless hanger recovery operation.

The Solution

The process involved rigging up KCI’s test manifold and injecting 9 litres of IG-S test fluid to verify the leak rate. This product sinks in oil and fills all available gaps in the Casing Hanger locking mechanism.

We activated mixed and injected 8 litres of MS Sealant 02 above the cured IG-S Sealant. This created a pressure build-up which compressed and energised the IG-S Sealant

KCI carried out a thorough evaluation process, testing the site twice to verify the leak failure.

The B-Annulus pressure was vented from the Casing Hanger void and it built back up to full B-Annulus pressure overnight.
