Redefining the Standard for Well Integrity

At KCI, our mission has always been to engineer practical, high integrity solutions that stand the test of time.

Following more than a decade of consistent performance in the field, KCI’s MS-Sealant has now been formally recognised as a permanent barrier by a major operator in Oman. This recognition follows over a decade of proven field performance, comprehensive lab testing, and rigorous evaluation across hundreds of wells in the region.

While the term “permanent barrier” might sound like a negative term, in our industry, it is a positive and important development, signifying confidence in the long-term reliability and safety of our solution.

Proven Performance in Oman

Since 2008, KCI’s MS-Sealant has been successfully deployed across Oman to address a critical and recurring challenge wellhead seal failures in both casing and tubing. In 2013, this operator formally launched a trial programme to assess MS-Sealant as a viable alternative to conventional repair methods.

Over the years, our solution has been used to address a common but costly challenge, wellhead casing and tubing seal failures.

Traditional repair methods often involve hoist or rig-based interventions, solutions that are both expensive and operationally disruptive. Alternative methods, like packing sticks, are frequently incompatible with certain wellhead designs and offer limited reliability.

Our MS-Sealant provides a reliable, rigless alternative, injected directly into the wellhead using existing access points. Once in place, the sealant transforms into a resilient, pressure energised solid barrier that withstands extreme temperatures, high pressures, and sour gas conditions without degradation.

Our MS-Sealant has been deployed in over 1300 wells across the region, from steam injectors to high pressure gas wells. The results have consistently exceeded expectations as demonstrated in the following snapshots:

  •  98% success rate across two major evaluation phases (2015 and 2019)

  •  Over $20 million in average yearly savings (2020–2022) from avoiding rig based repairs

  •  Zero reported failures in wells treated more than seven years ago

 Designed for harsh environments

Backed by extensive lab testing, including evaluations under NACE standards and simulated HPHT well conditions, MS-Sealant maintains integrity even at 204°C, with short term resilience up to 260°C. It has demonstrated resistance to hydrocarbon exposure, H₂S, CO₂, and mechanical stress.

By integrating this solution into both the construction and operation phases of the well lifecycle, operators can now rely on a cost effective, high-integrity solution that eliminates the need for intrusive interventions.

Setting a new industry standard

As operators across the Middle East face increasing pressure to optimise production and minimise downtime, KCI continues to offer smart, sustainable technologies that deliver long-term value.

If you are managing ageing well stock or encountering recurring wellhead issues, we would be happy to show you how MS-Sealant can transform your approach to well integrity safely, reliably, and permanently.
